Hi.

Super Simple and Quick Way To Fix Powders

Super Simple and Quick Way To Fix Powders

Yep. We've all been there and if you're like me, you may have said a couple curses in your head and maybe shed a tear if it was a favorite shadow (or an expensive one!) but I've learned an amazing DIY trick to make those broken powders new again!

Taking you from this...

To this!!

These products are my own that I did indeed drop! The pink one is the "On Wednesdays" eyeshadow from Maskcara Beauty, and the other is a translucent setting powder also from Maskcara! (Shop them here: www.maskcarabeauty.com/holly) alright here's how I fixed them!

Step One:  The supplies you need to get together are

  • alcohol

  • a small bowl

  • a spoon

  • piece of plastic

  • paper towel

  • some sort of dropper or syringe

Step Two:

Using your spoon, you're going to scoop out all of your product into the bowl (one at a time!! 😉) I know this is cringeworthy to do but you must! Then mix it together to a fine powder so there aren't any chunks. (Picture below still has large pieces that need to be mashed)

Step 3: I apologize, I didn't get any photos of this part!! Then carefully dump your powder back into its tin (I had to do just half to start) and level it out with your spoon. Then take your alcohol dropper or syringe and place into your powder making sure it's quite damp. Take your spoon and sort of mix it in a bit and then wrap it in your plastic and press it down a bit. Add in the rest of your powder and repeat the above. Don't worry about using too much alcohol, you need more than you think, it will evaporate!

Now at this point your product is looking like a sticky, wet mess and you're thinking great I've ruined it forever, I was fine just working around my broken chunks, why did I ever trust this crazy girl and her blog?!?! Girl, I got you! It probably looks something like this and it's totally normal!

(This is right after mixing in the alcohol and smoothing it down a bit)

(This is about 10 or so minutes later-you can see i's already starting to dry out)

Step Four: right after you mix in your alcohol, scrape off the top and smooth it out with either your spoon or tin lid (the plastic just helps it not stick to these things) you will lose a bit of product here but it's better than losing big chunks or the whole thing!

Step 5: this is the final and most important!! Wrap your tin lid (or something else hard and flat like a dollar coin?) with a paper towel and press on top with pressure. You are pressing it all back in and packing it so you need to press tight! Using a paper towel also helps soak in a bit of the excess alcohol. Do this for ehhh about 8-10 seconds once or twice or until you feel like it's good to go.

And that's it! Now you just need to leave your product out to sit and dry up (this takes a few hours) This process does take a little bit of time but so worth it! Your powders will look like new again and they work just the same! (at least mine did, I'm assuming all powders would be the same-which is why I tried two different ones here) I've been using my fixed ones for a couple weeks now and haven't had any issues or breaking! Good luck and contact me for any questions!
