5 Things To Do When a New Season Starts
My type 1 brain loves anything that can be put into nice categories and neat lists. I especially love it when those things make my life more simple or easier at the same time!
One of those things is having a “seasons system” which basically means I like to reset a few things every 3 months with that coordinating season.
I don't necessarily base this off of the weather. I just do a typical division of; Winter= December+January+February; Spring= March+April+May; Summer=June+July+August; Fall=September+October+November.
Of course some specifics will change depending on the season but overall here are the main things I do at the start of each season!
Refresh my master meal list. I swear by meal planning because it saves SO much time in my life, not to mention money. I usually only meal plan a week or two at a time but I do go off a “master list” for that season. This prevents me from getting into a meal rut (feeling like we have the same thing all the time.) It also takes advantage of in season produce.
Some of our favorite meals are included year round. I usually end up with about 15 meals for the 3 month period which means we only repeat a meal 6 times in a season (or less when you account for vacations/holiday meals/eating out ect.)
Update my closet. This may be a more obvious one that most people do but it's definitely something that will save you time in getting ready and feel like you have a “new” closet every few months!
So basically, I take out all the off season things (so right now it's summer only items being moved to the back of my closet.) Then I create a list of outfits using mostly what's already there and seeing what few things I'd like to add for the current season. Anything that I didn't wear the previous season or that won't fit into my list of outfits, I sell or donate. (I strongly believe in thrifting, using what you have, and not over-buying so these seasonal outfit capsules aren't ever a complete overhaul.)
Update my makeup palette. No this does not mean I buy all new makeup every 3 months haha. I do however have this amazing compact that I can easily swap out shades when I want! I only place about 1-2 orders of makeup a year so I keep the “off-season” shades in a separate compact. When a new season starts, I swap in a few different blush/lips and eyeshadows to “match” that season.
I also love doing this because it gives my makeup some fresh takes and trying out some new looks! Click here to shop the makeup I use and to build your own custom palette. Or if you'd like help creating your own makeup routine from start to finish including perfect shade matches then click here!
4. Switch up my workout routine. I personally follow the workouts from “Clean Simple Eats” and they actually have 4 seasonal meal plan books that include workouts. So this part is pretty easy for me to do however, you can switch it up any way you want! I like to do it because it keeps me from falling into ruts and getting unmotivated. It also makes sure I’m not only working on the same muscles over and over.
5. Clean out/restock household items. Every season is a perfect time to go through your cabinets and throw out expired food and household products. Anything that needs to be used up or eaten gets pulled out. During this process, I make note of what I need to buy. This includes toilet paper, cleaners, personal hygiene stuff, and anything food storage related.
It’s so nice to just get this all taken care of so I don’t have to really worry about running out of things for the next few months (or at least not the random things you always forget at the store!) This also obviously prevents a lot of waste because things aren’t getting buried or forgotten about.
Of course there are other things you could add to this list like home projects or deep cleaning. I will sometimes add in other things like that as well but these 5 are what I absolutely don’t go without doing. I feel like this helps simplify my life in a lot of ways, thus giving me time later on to focus on other stuff! I hope this list gave you some ideas on how you can add some minimalism and organization to your life in an easy way!
As always, thank you for being here and reading along, I appreciate your support! Tell me with a comment what is something you would add to this list and which season is your favorite to prep for?
