How I Plan Out My Week For Ultimate Sanity and Happiness!
Planning makes me happy. Like really happy and like I have my life together haha but I get that not everyone feels the same comfort from planning your entire life haha. But if you're here then I'm guessing you either want to start learning how to plan better or you're already an avid planner and want even more efficiency! (Man how many times can I say plan in that paragraph?!)
I truly don't think planning restricts me or makes my life boring and predictable. For me it just creates a little bit of balance and calms my anxiety and helps me to NOT try to be perfect and do all the things, all the time (because I am very prone to that.. enneagram 1 here!) I love to use a physical planner and write everything down. I use the beautiful one from Morgan Harper Nichols×Fringe.
My weekly planning starts on Sunday. I feel like if I have a good Sunday, the rest of my week just goes so smooth! Here's my personal recipe for a perfect Sunday (of course this is my OPINION, find what works for you!)
-I like to sleep in on Sunday and be lazy for the first part of the day and watch a movie in bed with my kids.
-Then I shower and wash my hair, shave, exfoliate, moisturize, sort of a mini self-spa and self love time!
-After lunch, I like to have some family time whether we go for a pretty drive or just play Legos on the floor!
-And then I like to fold laundry (most of which I washed on Saturday) usually while I watch a tv show I like or chat with my husband.
-While dinner is cooking, I meal plan for the week. After dinner, I like to do a full house pick up. Not like a deep clean but spend 10-15mins in every room so I can't start the week off with a more or less clean house!
-Usually after the kids are in bed, I plan out my week (details of that coming next!)
-And finally, sometimes my husband and I like to watch a movie or just hang out and play Lego haha.
Maybe that seems like a lot to some hahaha but to me, I love when my Sundays work out that way because like I said, it just gives me a good reset/relax before the week while also getting prepped for the upcoming week. Okay so now here's the breakdown of how I try to plan my weeks (leaving some flexibility for changes and some weeks are busier than others of course) And this is more a typical being at home with not a ton of plans. Of course we plan in semi-regular trips/friend time ect.
Okay so the first thing I do is check the city events and homeschool FB groups to see what is going on that week that we may want to participate in, fill in accordingly. Then I double check my calendar/texts/emails to see if we have any appointments or meet ups that I have forgotten about.
I personally have my days specifically designated to certain things so maybe this part is too much for some haha 😆. I run an online makeup artist business so I try to dedicate most of Tuesdays and Thursdays to working that in-between being a mom of course! Mondays are usually a house cleaning/grocery shopping day plus whatever appointments or meet ups we have. Wednesdays I try to dedicate to family days where we go on an outing or play outside most of the day. Friday is sort of half house cleaning/half family stuff. Saturdays are pretty cliche haha yard work, house projects, deep cleaning ect. We also try to have family movie night on Friday or Saturday!
So more or less that's how a plan out my week! Maybe not as crazy as you were expecting?? I like the designated days because then I don't feel pressured to try and do and figure out all of my life things every single day. And it makes it easier to focus in on one area and not have to switch “gears' back and forth constantly. On the house days, I try to pick one room to deep clean that day then just do more regular “maintaining” stuff. For my work days, I decide at the beginning of the month all of the things I want and need to get done then just more or less pick from that list on those days and do what I can.
As far as the specific days go, I don't really plan them out hour for hour because at some point, it just turns into stress and unrealistic expectations. And a little freedom is always a good thing even for me! I hope this gives you some ideas on how to maybe plan out your week to feel like you're touching on everything you need to without going crazy! Don't forget to give yourself a couple hours at night or an afternoon here and there for yourself! Go shopping by yourself, take a bath, read a book, do something you enjoy for no reason!
